Edits. {Hampton Roads, Virginia Photographer}

Remember in high school senior portraits where they take a close up of your face, and then charge $30 if you want them to remove that zit?

I remember. Because I wanted that stupid zit removed, but $30?

When I set up Fowler Photo's pricing structure, I remembered back to that time, and want to let you know that in my book, removing huge zits is par for the course.  My goal is to make you look your best.

That, of course, doesn't include making you lose 20 lbs, but it does include flattering poses.

To show an example, I used a picture of me.  This was taken by my husband Josh.  He's great at composition, so I set up the camera settings for him and let him go to town.

Here is the SOOC (straight out of camera) shot:

I used Lightroom to crop, make a few adjustments, and add a little color to the image to bring out the subject (me), from the background.  I also smoothed out my skin just a tad to complete a basic edit.

Next, I realized that I most definitely need to get my hair touched up again.  It's much easier to get it touched up in real life before the photo shoot, but I didn't exactly plan on this one!

Here is the final product, including the hair touch up!

Minor Edits.

Editing for me is all about the details.  Whether it be removing my face & camera from the reflection of a Christmas ornament, changing toe-nail polish, or making power lines disappear, I strive to give each picture the attention it needs.

This picture looked pretty good straight out of the camera (SOOC).  I love the focus on her cute little toes and the texture of the wood, with the ornament in the background that complements her skirt.

But see that bit of toenail polish?  It had to go.  It was the only thing I saw when I looked at the image.

And voila!  A little color correcting and such, taking out the toenail polish, and it's one of my favorite detail shots of her cute little toes.

For this little one, she uses her toes almost as much as she uses her hands, so I definitely wanted to document those cute tootsies so we could remember that for years to come!

Smiley Rylie's Christmas Pictures! {Hampton Roads, Virginia Photographer}

There are a lot of things that can lead to a truly wonderful photo session.  This Christmas session for Miss Rylie was definitely one of those.  She was familiar and comfortable with me and my camera (she's my nieces, and I've been snapping her picture since she was two days old... she's starting to get used to it).  That's also why it helps to find a photographer you love, and stick with them.  It lets your child get used to that person, and results in better pictures for a lifetime.

She's also a bit of a natural in front of the camera.  On top of being completely adorable in real life, she enjoys posing for pictures, even at 8 months old.

Did I mention that she's adorable?

Look at that cute little foot sticking out to hold her balance?

I love feet (in pictures... not in real life!), so of course I tried to get one of my favorite shots, but this little one wouldn't have that.  She danced a jig instead!

Holy blue eyes!!  And cute baby teeth!

What do you think... does someone look just like her mommy?  She did get the hair and eye color from her dad!  Her mom also apparently posed for pictures the same way when she was little... isn't that amazing?

Speaking of posing for pictures... this started out as mommy sweetly kissing baby.  But then baby realized that there was a camera and of course she had to look at the camera and smile!

Someone completely passed out when we moved to a different location!

... But woke up perfectly happy!

Remember how she couldn't resist looking at the camera and smiling for each picture?  This one was no exception!  These will be such precious memories for the whole family to look back on for years to come.

I'll let this one speak for itself:

Merry Christmas, from Rylie girl!

First Birthday Fun! {Hampton Roads, Virginia Photographer}

Someone had a birthday!  I took some family photos for Lauren and Allie a few months ago and now Allie is turning one!

There's the birthday girl!

And boy, Allie had the cutest outfit on!

She totally dug into the cake!

Check out that happy baby!

I love all the pink and pearls.

And she had some beautiful guests!

Here's precious Allie with her aunt.  I'm an aunt myself and I just love these sweet moments they shared together.

This chair was one of her birthday presents - it was her mom's chair when she was little, and has been re-upholstered by her grandfather.

Allie and her gorgeous mommy!

Thank you, Lauren, for having me capture Allie's first birthday!
